At the age of 6 years I started sailing. 1998, after 6 years of intense training and participating in many races it was time for something else and I got into windsurfing. From that point of time on it was very difficult, when there was a lot of wind: Should I go windsurfing or sailing??? Mostly I decided to go windsurf … In 2001 I saw the first kiters on my local beach and was thrilled right away! I asked one of them whether I could try it out and he allowed me to grab his gear from then on if there wasn’t enough wind for himself to go ride. It was some work to convince my entire family but in the end it wasn’t a fancy watch or a gold coin I got for my confirmation but two kites! A year later in 2002 I decided to get rid of the skiff and all my windsurfing equipment. It turned out to be a good decision … no more trade-offs – just kiting!!

After I finished my a-levels in 2007 I caught the next flight and didn’t come back to Germany apart for packing my bags for the next trip. It was an amazing year, I got to meet the nicest people, visit the most beautiful kiting-locations, win events, loose events, sleep on airports or beaches and just live the life on the road! In one word, it was amazing!

I knew life could go on like this for quite a few more years but I have to admit that I missed some structure and a bit more of a plan in it. That’s why I applied for a college place at several universities after I came home from a trip to the US. When I got the confirmations I made a large-scale decision and moved away from the coast to the city of Munich. I was accepted to enter the Technische Universität München. Since then I am studying ”Technologie- & managementorientierte BWL” which leaves me with a big challenge: Combining two professions! Although I have to say that I was pretty skeptical in the beginning it’s working out really good. It’s exciting to take on new challenges and manage your time efficiently although it of course comes with a bunch of cut backs. Being lazy and doing nothing isn’t really part of my schedule anymore. :-)
