Day 7 + Day 8
Day 7 was pretty weird … it looked like it would get windy. So everybody went out incl. me because I was testing a new board. Had a sick upwinder almost all the way to the huge golden Buddha at the end of the bay. The there was sort of a front coming through, I thought it was more of a building thunderstorm. Anyways, the wind kicked in like crazy from another direction and the kites + tents were flying across the beach. I ran to the tent, grabbed my 10 and rigged it … 5 min later I could barely keep the 19m up in the air. It was ridiculous. Olaf (Racedirector) in the end decided to cancel the comp for the day and finished some rounds of an SUP – race around a buoy some 50 meters from the shore. On the other hand it gave enough time to enjoy a 2hrs thaimassage and eat some amazing seafood right next to the harbor.
Day 8 was much more promising although it was supposed to be not windy at all. We had north wind, normally there’s a wind coming from the south. But it was enough to start the racing. Olaf gave us a pretty good workout with 4 races in a row with only a little lunch break in between. Bruno won every race as yesterday. It’s just crazy … he can go upwind better and faster than everyone else. I switched to another board (Brunos from last year) and it took me some time to get used to it. But it’s getting better and better every day. My best result of the day was a 5th place in the last race. I was doing pretty well on my 15 with the wind dropping out. Kari from Norway did an amazing job and finished 3rd overall … showed the men how to do it!!
Good excuse, I weight much more!!
Tomorrow we’ll have the skippersmeeting at 10am again. If it’ll be like today we’ll probably do another 4 races.
Would be good for me because I need the discards (4 races, only 3 count) for the two shitty results I had yesterday.
Will keep you posted.
Sebastian
